It's a fact that one can escape from their upbringing and the environmental factors that define them. The fact that people can oppose what is around them speaks that they can differentiate from it, so they assert themselves as a separate consciousness.

As long as we are a separate consciousness, we can make choices. In fact, morality as such is based on these choices. Imagine what a world we'd live in without the concept of morality.....
