I've always known that having a pet would require a lot of my time and attention, but I've never really thought about the financial toll. It sounds really scary! I remember our dog, we adopted him when I was ten, and he obviously was very healthy because I don't remember my father ever taking him to a vet. He ate cheap meat from the market, or shared our food. He died when he was 12 and he wasn't a financial burden at all. I guess times have changed a lot since that time.
