This story moved me so much! You were so extremely lucky to have been exposed to a multi-cultural environment. I can understand your revolt because I see the same thing in my kids now, who are trilingual. We are Bulgarians, speak Bulgarian at home and they go to a Saturday Bulgarian school. We live in Greece, but their regular school is American, so, besides Bulgarian, they also study English and Greek. It's a total confusion at time, but you can't imagine the way they switch from language to language, it's amazing!
